Potatoes: Rare Varieties | Cultural Considerations | Planting Guidelines | Where to Buy | More

Much like rice, wheat and maize (corn), potato crops are an important part the world’s diet. They are the largest crop in the US but China is the largest producer in the world with almost 1/3rd of all potatoes harvested in China and India. There are 1000s of varieties of potatoes but almost all commercially grown potatoes are 1 of only 5 different varieties: Russet, Yukon Gold, Kennebec, Desiree and Fingerling.
